The power of the Placebo and Nocebo effect can dictate your body's healing capacity.
The placebo effect is when an improvement of symptoms is observed, despite using a nonactive treatment.
From its Latin translation, I shall be attractive or acceptable—when a person feels better due to a drug or treatment that has no pharmacological or physiological effects, regardless of whether they are aware it is a placebo.
The nocebo effect is occasionally referred to as the placebo effect's evil twin; it translates as "I will injure or be detrimental."
It occurs in any situation in which a patient develops side effects or symptoms that can occur because the patient believes they may occur.
Examples include adverse symptoms as a result of an inert pill or treatment, or even as a result of verbal encouragement or observation.
1. Attitude and beliefs have a big effect on our health.
2. Be aware of giving your power over to others. Their influence can have a strong impact.
3. Make healthy living a ritual— eating right, exercising, yoga, quality social time, meditating, etc.
I had never heard of "nocebo" until reading this article. It never ceases to amaze me how powerful the mind is and how what we think about in our most dominate thoughts makes itself manifest in our lives.
A lot of truth in this brief article. Owning our own thoughts and presence is so important.
I believe in the placebo effect. It's amazing what the power of the mind can have. Sometimes a person's presence, regardless of your current physical condition or state of mind, can have a soothing and encouraging affect on you. I started a diet several months ago, and while I don't see the reflection that I want to see in the mirror (yet), I feel soooo much better.
When the pandemic started, my employer made us work from home for almost a year and I blew up that scale. I wasn't until I started working on myself that I started to feel better physically, became healthier and started to clear my mind and feel better mentally. It all connects.
The placebo effect is real, and I’ve seen it in action. You can especially see it in kids. If a child falls down, and scrapes their knee, you clean the knee, and place a band aid on it…But what really fixes the scrape is when you draw a happy face on the band-aid. 😄 This worked for me as a child with scrapes, or shots, and I recognize it now with children as an adult.
