Study 1

1. Plant species diversity and biomass increased significantly with the number of regenerative practices employed on almonds and rangelands. 

2. Invertebrate species diversity and richness were positively associated with regenerative practices in corn, almonds, and rangelands, whereas pest populations and almond yields were unaffected by the number of regenerative practices. 

3. Corn yields were negatively associated with more regenerative practices, while almond yields were unaffected by the number of regenerative practices. Profit was significantly higher on more regenerative corn and almond operations."

Study 2

1. Pests were 10-fold more abundant in insecticide-treated corn fields than on insecticide-free regenerative farms, indicating that farmers who proactively design pest-resilient food systems outperform farmers that react to pests chemically. 

2. Regenerative fields had 29% lower grain production but 78% higher profits over traditional corn production systems.

I have a family member that ran a dairy farm when I was a child and this article would be very interesting to them since I know they still lease out their land to local farmers. I would like to discuss this with them and see if they’ve heard anything about the farming methods mentioned in this article. This sounds like a good move moving forward to help replenish soil and it’s always helpful to research new methods and ideas. Well written article with resources listed is a bonus thank you.

The Brown Family Farm is no ordinary ranch. Located in the prairie lands of North Dakota, it produces 13 different food products through a combination of crop rotations and permaculture, which includes pasture-raised livestock as well as a robust fertility program involving composting, no-till farming and cover crops. This is a topic more important than people realize. The UN just released a report today about the danger of climate change and how we need to start taking action now. It's amazing how some things will help more than others. Climate change and environmental awareness go hand in hand with farming.

This is a well-informed and researched article. This really makes the reader think about the benefits of regenerative agriculture, and all the benefits not only to the environment but also to the farmers and consumers.
